Victoria's anti-corruption watchdog has released a report finding that the former government of Premier Daniel Andrews engaged in "serious and concerning" conduct in its dealings with firefighter union leader Peter Marshall, though investigators uncovered no evidence of corruption or blackmail.[1]
The Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (Ibac) determined that government members took actions contrary to policy, procedure and codes of conduct, including deliberate attempts to conceal and mislead, and that an undisclosed deal struck with Marshall gave him extraordinary influence over negotiations.[1] The report explicitly dismissed allegations that Marshall had blackmailed or otherwise compromised Andrews, accusations that both men have denied.[1]
The investigation, which began in 2018 following a complaint that Marshall had blackmailed or otherwise compromised the former premier, concluded eight years later when the report was submitted to parliament on Wednesday.[1]
