A 16-year-old boy arrested in connection with the death of his 35-year-old mother has refused to appear before Perth Children's Court via video conference during a recent hearing.[1] The incident occurred on the morning of July 21, 2024, in the Bentley area of Perth, Australia, when the boy allegedly stabbed his mother fatally and injured his 12-year-old sister.[1] The sister fled to nearby Albany Highway to seek help and was later treated and discharged from hospital.[1]
During the court proceeding, Magistrate Andree Horrigan acknowledged that the boy is undergoing psychiatric evaluations once weekly while in custody.[1] The magistrate stated that "his health and wellbeing during detention is of paramount importance."[1] According to those familiar with the case, the boy's family had previously sought support on multiple occasions.[1] The matter has been adjourned and will return to court on September 18.[1]
