China's leading technology companies are rapidly consolidating their artificial intelligence agent offerings, marking a strategic shift in how the industry competes for user dominance in the workplace automation space.[1]
On August 3rd, Alibaba announced the launch of Qwen Office, integrating three separate agent products—QoderWork, Wukong, and MuleRun—into a unified platform.[1] The same day, the company released the Qwen 3.8 model with substantially enhanced coding and professional office capabilities.[1] This move follows similar consolidations by Alibaba's competitors: Tencent merged its QClaw business into the WorkBuddy ecosystem on July 20th, while ByteDance moved its entire Feishu product team into the Doubao division on July 30th.[1]
The synchronized realignment reflects a transition in China's AI sector from early exploration toward competition for critical user touchpoints. Market data shows the strategic importance of this battlefield—across 17 mainstream desktop AI office agents, combined monthly visits exceeded 6 million as of June 2026, with Tencent, ByteDance, and Alibaba systems collectively accounting for approximately 5.62 million visits.[1] MuleRun, one of Alibaba's consolidated products, had already expanded to serve 43 countries and regions as of May this year, with 34 percent of its monthly paying users spending over 200 US dollars.[1]
