Egyptian authorities have arrested multiple individuals involved in an elaborate fraud operation in which suspects posed as judges to defraud citizens.[1] The main suspects—an unemployed man and a student residing in Cairo and Giza respectively—allegedly orchestrated a criminal network that falsely promised to allocate government housing to victims in exchange for money.[1]
To bolster their credibility, the suspects photographed and filmed themselves wearing judicial robes inside courtrooms.[1] Police recovered incriminating items from the operation, including a firearm, judicial belts, and identity cards bearing fraudulent judicial titles.[1] The scheme also implicated some court staff members, who were detained and questioned on suspicion of complicity in assisting the fraudsters.[1] The suspects have admitted to organizing the criminal enterprise and are expected to face accelerated criminal prosecution.[1]
