The student protest movement known as "Cockroach Janata" has amassed 26.6 million Instagram followers, surpassing both the BJP and the Indian National Congress in social media reach.[1] Official youth unemployment stands at 16 percent nationwide, though the figure rises sharply to nearly 40 percent among college graduates aged 15 to 25, and reaches 20 percent for those aged 25 to 29.[1] This demographic challenge carries particular weight given that nearly two-thirds of India's population is under 35 years old.[1] BJP national president Nitin Nadda had previously dismissed the protesters as "viruses and cockroach gangs," a characterization that preceded the party's electoral loss.[1] The BJP also lost another of the three byelectionsit contested this week, retaining only the Manjalpur seat in Gujarat.[1]
