英国首相伯纳姆访问基辅宣布支持乌克兰远程导弹制造

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham arrived in Kyiv on August 24 for his first foreign visit since taking office in July, coinciding with Ukraine's 35th Independence Day anniversary 234. Burnham met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and co-chaired a "Coalition of the Willing" meeting alongside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, European Council President António Costa, and leaders from Nordic and Baltic states 46.

The centrepiece of Burnham's visit was Britain's commitment to strengthen Ukraine's long-range strike capabilities 14. The UK government approved the defence contractor MBDA to declassify technical information about British components in the Storm Shadow/Scalp long-range missiles, enabling France and Ukraine to establish local assembly lines for the weapons 141011. Britain has already pledged over £25 billion ($34 billion) in military and civilian support and was the first country to provide long-range strike weapons to Ukraine in 2023 468.

Burnham stated: "On Ukraine's 35th anniversary of independence, the Ukrainian people should be in no doubt: the UK is behind you today and for as long as it takes. Our support will not waver. After all, Ukraine's security is our security" 48. European Council President Costa echoed this commitment, saying: "We will continue to provide as much support as necessary, for as long as necessary — during the war, in peace negotiations and in reconstruction" 4.
