Parliament dissolved on October 1 before lawmakers could hold a vote on the legislation 1.

The initiative follows Australia's implementation of its own social media restrictions for minors, with bans set to take effect in December 2025 1. Within one month of Australia's restrictions coming into force, approximately 4.7 million accounts identified as belonging to children were removed from platforms 1.
