Justice Thomas Bradley has been appointed as Queensland's 28th Governor, making him the state's first openly gay governor.[1] The announcement was made on Tuesday morning by Premier David Crisafulli.[1] Bradley will be sworn in on November 1.[1]
The appointment has been welcomed across the legal profession and community advocacy sectors.[1] Bradley's partner, Dr Matthew Yoong, attended the announcement ceremony.[1] Andrew Staite, Chief Executive of the Pinnacle Foundation, expressed that the foundation was "absolutely thrilled and delighted" by the appointment.[1] Bradley has served as a long-standing ambassador and donor to LGBTQ+ youth charities.[1]
Legal colleagues have praised Bradley's credentials for the role.[1] Tom Fletcher, a partner at MinterEllison, described him as "an outstanding lawyer" with "intellectual rigour, sound judgment, and a deep commitment to the law."[1]
