As the 2026 APEC conference approaches, Yantian Community in Bao'an District, Shenzhen is mobilizing local residents through systematic preparation efforts. The community has organized youth volunteers to participate in training focused on becoming "APEC-friendly ambassadors," equipping them with knowledge about the organization's development trajectory, institutional structure, diplomatic etiquette, and communication standards.[1] A total of 10 young volunteers and 3 youth volunteer leaders have enrolled in this initiative.[1]
Beyond volunteer training, the community has launched a comprehensive civility enhancement campaign spanning multiple fronts. A complete bilingual signage audit is underway across the district, with the goal of ensuring that "road signs, directional guides, and merchant signboards meet standards of accuracy, clarity, and error-free presentation."[1] Simultaneously, volunteers are conducting environmental outreach on public conduct and city cleanliness, while promoting orderly commuting practices.[1] Community staff emphasized the broader significance of these efforts, noting that "the APEC Summit is a major event for our country, and we hope every household will actively participate."[1] Looking ahead, the community plans to sustain volunteer capacity-building through ongoing training series and institutionalize various civility initiatives.[1]
