Shenzhen's inaugural AI Robot Pan-Theater Arts Season opened on August 21 in Longgang District, marking a novel fusion of cutting-edge robotics and dramatic performance 1. The season will run through January 2027 and extend across eleven neighborhoods in Longgang 1.
The centerpiece of the opening is "Its Memory," China's first therapeutic robot drama, which made its street debut featuring real actors alongside Moya, a soft-touch emotion-comfort robot 1. This production explores the intersection of artificial intelligence and human emotion through collaboration between actor Kang Jiacheng, actress Dong Yurou, and the robot performer 1. The work was directed and written by Dai Wei, director of the Digital Media Art Division at Shanghai Theatre Academy 1.
Beyond the flagship production, the arts season brings together dozens of theater organizations and will feature multiple robotic performers, including Unitree Go2, Cloudminds Jueying Lite3, Honghuozhineng's soft-bodied Moya, a Unitree G1 humanoid robot identical to those featured in CCTV's Spring Festival Gala, Digital China humanoid robots, and Booster K1 1. All programming throughout the season will be offered free of charge to the general public 1.
As Dai Wei reflected on the artistic approach, "Engineers work to make robots more 'like' humans, but artists are thinking about how to transform robots into characters audiences will never forget. The fusion of science and art is far more than simply one plus one" 1.
