NBC's streaming service Peacock achieved its first profitable quarter in the second quarter of 2025, marking a significant turnaround after six years of substantial losses [1]. The platform's path to profitability was driven primarily by broadcasting rights to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico [1].
The financial milestone came after Peacock had accumulated losses exceeding $14 billion since its launch [1]. In Q2, the platform generated revenues of $1.9 billion with adjusted EBITDA of $189 million [1]. NBC and its Spanish-language network Telemundo combined earned $1.2 billion in advertising revenue from World Cup coverage, with Telemundo accounting for approximately $360 million of that total [1]. Within NBC's media business division, $441 million of the $569 million revenue growth during the quarter was directly attributable to World Cup broadcasting [1].
Peacock's subscriber base expanded to 48 million paid users, gaining 2 million new subscribers in the quarter [1]. Looking ahead, NBC announced plans to bring Peacock content to YouTube Premium starting in 2027, including coverage of major sports events such as the NFL and NBA [1]. YouTube Premium's subscription base has grown to nearly 125 million users [1].
