Fifty outstanding students from Futian District participated in an immersive life sciences experience at the BGI Genomics Time & Space Center on August 2, as part of the "Trendiest China Tour: Futian Youth in Action" summer internship program organized by the Futian District Education Bureau [1].
The students explored cutting-edge genomic technology through hands-on learning activities [1]. They toured exhibits featuring gene sequencing equipment, including the E25, T7, and T20 series sequencers, and studied the fundamental principles of genetic sequencing [1]. A highlight of the visit was the students' construction of DNA double helix models, where they learned the base-pairing rules—adenine pairs only with thymine, and cytosine pairs only with guanine [1]. The experience also included a walkthrough of a 3.8-billion-year evolution corridor showcasing the history of life [1].
The visit demonstrated the advanced capabilities of Chinese biotechnology innovation, with BGI sequencing instruments capable of performing precise genetic detection in extreme environments, including high-altitude locations such as Mount Everest [1].
