China's advancement in artificial intelligence and smart manufacturing technologies is attracting growing numbers of overseas students and visitors, spurring study tour operators to develop specialized programs centered on these innovations.[1] Multiple educational travel companies have entered this emerging market, offering customized experiences that showcase cutting-edge technologies including unmanned aerial vehicles, robotic arms, new energy vehicles, and embodied robots.[1]
One company established in Nanjing in September 2024 has locked 95% of its business into the inbound study tour sector, hosting 45 incoming groups in June and 31 groups in July.[1] Study tour itineraries feature visits to low-altitude industry parks for drone demonstrations, university robotics facilities, automotive intelligent production lines, technology parks including Alibaba's operations, drone bases in East China, Shanghai Volkswagen's new energy vehicle factory, and robot manufacturing plants.[1] In July, South Korea's first customized group launched toward China, bringing nearly 30 university students to Hangzhou for a four-day, three-night program.[1]
The expansion reflects broader policy support: China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism has issued the "Fifteenth Five-Year Plan for Building a Strong Tourism Nation," which aims to enhance convenience and internationalization in inbound tourism.[1] Online travel platform Fliggy has launched "China Smart Manufacturing" study tour products in response to sustained international demand for experiences in artificial intelligence, embodied intelligence, and new energy vehicle sectors.[1] Industry analysts project that inbound AI study tours will experience substantial growth over the next five to ten years.[1]
