A Toyota Yaris driven by a 45-year-old woman became wedged inside a council bus in Brisbane's Rocklea district following a chain-reaction collision on Wednesday evening around 6:30 p.m.[2] The incident occurred near the intersection of Beaudesert Road and Granard Road[2] when a Ssangyong vehicle driven by a 66-year-old attempted to change lanes and forced the Yaris driver to swerve, causing the Toyota to launch into the air and crash through the side of a stationary bus.[2]
The 66-year-old bus driver, who had been with the service for at least seven years and received multiple commendations, remained uninjured and immediately assisted the trapped Yaris driver.[2] The Yaris driver was transported to hospital to receive treatment for shock symptoms.[2] Brisbane Mayor Adrian Schrinner praised the bus driver's response, stating: "The bus driver... he did absolutely the right thing."[2] The Ssangyong driver was fined $690 and had three demerit points deducted for careless driving.[2]
