Indonesian President Prabowo met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defense Minister Dong Jun in Jakarta on January 21, expressing Indonesia's eagerness to strengthen comprehensive strategic cooperation with China across political, economic, and technological sectors.1 The meeting coincided with the second Indonesia-China "2+2" dialogue, following the inaugural talks held in Beijing in April 2025.1
During the "2+2" talks, both nations committed to expanding interaction mechanisms between the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the Chinese People's Liberation Army.1 The two countries also agreed to further broaden bilateral trade, which currently stands at $167 billion.1 Preliminary discussions also took place regarding an action plan for the 2027-2031 period.1
On regional maritime issues, Indonesia and China reaffirmed their support for the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea and called for accelerated progress toward a binding Code of Conduct for the South China Sea.1
