Kay Granger, who broke barriers as the first Republican woman elected to Congress from Texas, died on Sunday at age 83 from Alzheimer's disease.[1] Born in January 1943, Granger served nearly 30 years in the House of Representatives and became the first female chair of the House Appropriations Committee.[1]
