Tony Livesey has left his position at BBC 5 Live following a BBC Panorama investigation into allegations of sexual harassment and predatory conduct.[1] The investigation centered on billionaire David Sullivan, a co-owner and co-chairman of West Ham United, with claims that Livesey facilitated at least one woman's introduction to Sullivan, after which she allegedly experienced unwanted sexual contact.[1]
Livesey had presented a late-night show on BBC 5 Live, broadcasting from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., for 16 years before his departure.[1] Both Livesey and Sullivan have denied the allegations; Livesey stated he had "absolutely no recollection" of introducing the woman in question to Sullivan.[1] Sullivan announced his resignation as director and co-chairman of West Ham United on June 6, 2024.[1]
The allegations extend to Livesey's earlier career at the Sport newspaper, where he worked for 18 years before leaving in 2006 to focus on his BBC broadcasting role.[1] In his 1998 autobiography, Livesey described collaborating with Sullivan on the "Countdown to 16" column; however, he later stated the column was "absolutely not" his creative concept.[1]
