The 25-year-old daughter of Keli Lane has publicly identified herself as a forgotten victim in the case, appealing for her mother's release from prison.[1] In a letter, the daughter stated: "I am the forgotten victim in this situation."[1] She last saw her mother at age nine, when she was sent to school.[1]
Lane is serving time for the 1996 murder of her biological daughter Tegan, for which she received an 18-year prison sentence.[1] Her sentence is scheduled to conclude in December 2028.[1] However, Lane has been denied parole because she refuses to disclose the location of the victim's remains.[1] Under New South Wales legislation requiring body location disclosure, convicted murderers cannot be released unless they provide satisfactory police cooperation to locate the victim's remains.[1]
The case has affected others connected to Lane. Patrick Cogan, Lane's partner and a longtime teacher at a Catholic school, was dismissed in October 2025 after 27 years of employment due to his relationship with Lane.[1] In July, the Fair Work Commission determined Cogan's dismissal was "harsh, unjust or unreasonable," ordering his reinstatement and the payment of back pay.[1] Additionally, Lane has filed litigation against the state, alleging misconduct by public officials and claiming that multiple correctional officers abused her during her imprisonment.[1]
