Bridgewater Associates founder Ray Dalio has outlined the mechanisms and warning indicators of the artificial intelligence bubble in a recent podcast appearance.[1] According to Dalio, the AI bubble stems from investment enthusiasm that disregards valuation fundamentals when revolutionary new technologies emerge.[1]
Dalio identified three primary signals that precede bubble collapse: rising interest rates, a substantial increase in stock supply, and retail investors amplifying leverage to enter the market.[1] To mitigate bubble-related risks, he recommends portfolio diversification, specifically suggesting that gold should constitute between 5% and 15% of investment holdings.[1]
Dalio emphasized that bubbles exist on a spectrum rather than as binary phenomena, and noted that the world experiences significant order transitions approximately every 80 years, with the current period occurring near such a critical juncture.[1]
Regarding who will benefit from AI transformation, Dalio stated that "the ultimate beneficiaries are capitalists who hold the ideology of replacing workers."[1] However, he acknowledged that "people with exceptional human intelligence who can collaborate with others will still perform well."[1]
