The non-motorized vehicle pathway beneath Binhe Huanggang Bridge No. 2 in Futian District, Shenzhen, previously presented significant barriers to cyclists and e-bike riders due to excessively high curbs and steep steps, forcing users to divert onto motorized lanes.[1] Following media coverage of the issue, Shenzhen's Transportation Bureau Futian Management Division initiated improvements to the underpass.[1]
The renovation work has addressed the most pressing concerns by restructuring the original single high step into two smaller steps, thereby reducing individual step height.[1] Additionally, ramps have been installed along the curb of the non-motorized pathway to ensure smoother transition with the road surface.[1] However, the complexity of subsurface infrastructure has constrained further optimization efforts; the pedestrian walkway area contains multiple utility lines including telecommunications cables, gas pipes, power lines, water mains, and ultra-high voltage electrical cables.[1]
The relevant authorities have indicated plans to continue evaluating and refining accessibility solutions based on actual usage conditions observed at the site.[1]
