A helicopter operating a safari tour crashed in northern Kenya's Samburu County on Wednesday morning, resulting in seven fatalities, including five American citizens.12 The Eurocopter EC130 B4, operated by the local company Lady Lori Helicopters and chartered by the tour operator &Beyond, went down near the base of Ololokwe Mountain while traveling from Loisaba Conservancy to the Ewaso Nyiro area.12
Among those killed were Roger Duarte, founder and owner of George Stone Crab restaurant in Miami; José Suárez, 55, president and general manager of Telemundo's Florida television stations; Michele Sensi-Contugi, director of Ecuador's National Intelligence Center; Stephany Hollihan, a fashion designer and U.S. and Ecuadorian citizen; Adam Hlavaty, a real estate executive and co-founder of MRKT Group; Henry Parra, a retired U.S. Navy member and co-founder of an aviation maintenance company; and Josh Outram, the pilot and founder of Africa Heli Adventures.12 The crash occurred at 9:13 a.m. on Wednesday.2
The Ecuadorian government confirmed that Sensi-Contugi was a friend and close colleague of President Daniel Noboa.2 The U.S. State Department issued a statement expressing its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased.2 Kenyan civil aviation authorities said the cause of the accident remains under investigation.1
