Moonlight Resources has commenced the first systematic modern exploration of the Peak Downs copper project near Clermont in central Queensland.[1] The company plans a 3,000-meter reverse circulation drilling program to assess the viability of the historically significant high-grade copper system.[1] According to Managing Director Greg Starr, "The commencement of drilling at Peak Downs represents the first step under Moonlight's ownership in systematically exploring the potential of this historically significant high-grade copper system."[1]
The Peak Downs project sits on a mineralized system with an extensive exploration history. Between 1862 and 1877, the site yielded approximately 100,000 tonnes of oxidized carbonate ore averaging 17% copper.[1] Historical drilling results reveal encouraging grades, including a 39-meter intersection grading 1.11% copper with a 6-meter enriched zone grading 4.04% copper, and a 24-meter interval grading 0.97% copper.[1] The mineralized trend extends beyond 2.5 kilometers along strike.[1]
The current drilling program aims to establish sufficient scale and continuity to support an initial JORC-compliant mineral resource estimate.[1] Peak Downs forms part of the broader Clermont Project, which encompasses approximately 268 square kilometers.[1]
