A Cessna 441 charter aircraft operated by Security Aviation crashed near the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site Airport in western Alaska, resulting in the deaths of all eight people on board.12 The aircraft, carrying two pilots and six passengers, went down around 12:15 p.m. local time on Thursday while approaching the airport, which is located approximately 450 miles west of Anchorage.12
The passengers aboard the flight were professionals engaged in important military operations at the remote radar facility.2 Lt. Gen. Robert Davis, commander of the 11th Air Force at U.S. Pacific Air Forces, characterized the incident as "a devastating loss for our military family and the community we serve."2 Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski also issued a statement regarding the crash, noting that she had flown with Security Aviation multiple times in Alaska and knew many of the company's experienced pilots.2 The National Transportation Safety Board's Alaska regional investigator, Clint Johnson, has been assigned to the investigation.2
