An 85-year-old former Australian radio broadcaster and national rugby coach is facing trial in Sydney on charges of sexual misconduct spanning nearly two decades.[1][2] Alan Jones has pleaded not guilty to 20 counts of indecent assault and 2 counts of unlawful sexual contact, with allegations involving six male victims and minors.[1][2] The alleged offenses occurred between 2003 and 2020 at locations including Sydney and Jones's farm in New South Wales.[1]

Jones's defense lawyer, Gabrielle Bashir SC, has contended that prosecution witnesses were influenced by media figures to make their allegations.[2] Jones has stated that the charges are "either groundless or a distortion of the facts."[1] Prior to his 2024 arrest, a 2023 investigation by the Sydney Morning Herald detailed allegations that Jones had used his position of power to harass multiple young men, prompting police to establish a dedicated task force.[1] Jones previously served as coach of the Australian national rugby team for four years from early 1984 to 1988, during which the team won 86 of 102 matches under his leadership.[1]
