Ukraine launched a large-scale drone assault targeting military, energy, and civilian infrastructure deep within Russian territory.[1][2][3] Russian defense officials claimed to have intercepted 635 Ukrainian unmanned aircraft.[1][2][3] Casualty reports varied, with between 5 and 8 people killed in the strikes.[1][2][3] Among the targets struck were the Engels airfield in Saratov region and a major oil refinery approximately 600 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, facilities that Ukraine says are regularly used to launch long-range missile attacks.[2]
The attack also struck multiple warehouses belonging to Wildberries, Russia's largest e-commerce platform.[1] According to available information, Ukrainian forces have targeted over a dozen Wildberries facilities within a two-week period, with one warehouse located roughly 800 kilometers from the Russia-Ukraine border in Samara region.[1] The Saratov regional governor acknowledged that the drone strikes caused damage to civilian infrastructure in both Saratov and Engels.[2]
Russia responded with its own offensive operations, deploying 133 unmanned aircraft against Ukraine, of which 24 reportedly struck their targets.[1] Ukrainian cities including Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv sustained casualties from these counterstrikes, with at least 2 deaths reported.[1] According to Ukrainian sources, Russian attacks on the Kharkiv region resulted in at least 1 fatality at a postal terminal in the northeastern area.[2] Russia claimed its forces also struck two Ukrainian ports and two vessels in the Black Sea during the same period.[2]
