Ross was charged only with drug administration and pleaded guilty, receiving a nine-month prison sentence.1 The sentencing judge stated: "You were not charged with conduct endangering life or conduct contributing to Bowden's death. You were not charged with manslaughter."1 South Australia currently has no explicit legislation that criminalizes failing to seek emergency assistance when someone's life is in danger.1
Amy's mother, Michelle Sposito, has launched a petition calling for legal reform in South Australia, urging Premier Peter Malinauskas and Attorney-General Kyam Maher to establish clear criminal liability for failing to seek help in life-threatening situations.1
