A sightseeing aircraft operating in Peru's Nazca region crashed with all 13 people on board, including 11 passengers and 2 crew members.[1] The plane, operated by local company Aerodiana, went down near Pueblo Viejo, approximately 6 kilometers from Nazca in the southern province of Nazca, shortly after departing from Pisco Airport, which is located 240 kilometers from Lima.[1] The aircraft lost contact with air traffic control just minutes after takeoff at approximately 1:00 p.m. local time, or 6:00 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time.[1]
Among the victims were seven Italian nationals, two German nationals, and two Spanish nationals, though these figures remain unconfirmed.[1] Police Major Jorge Andrade stated that "given the severity of the accident, there are no survivors."[1] Aerodiana, the airline operating the flight, has been conducting sightseeing tours over the Nazca Lines for 14 years.[1] The cause of the crash remains under investigation.[1]
