Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman conveyed concerns to President Trump during a Saturday phone call about potential U.S. escalation in the ongoing conflict with Iran.[1] The crown prince warned that if American strikes target Iranian energy infrastructure or conduct major attacks on other critical facilities, Iran could retaliate against Gulf nations' and Saudi Arabia's own energy infrastructure.[1]
The conflict between the two countries has now persisted for five months.[1] In advance of the call, Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman traveled to Washington earlier this week to meet separately with Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance to discuss Iran strategy.[1] Additionally, Saudi Arabia conducted joint operations with the United States earlier in the week, striking multiple logistics and weapons sites used by Iranian-backed militias in Iraq.[1] Saudi Arabia is also seeking to bring the U.S. and Iran back to the negotiating table as a path toward resolving the prolonged confrontation.[1]
