The enforcement action follows new legislation that prohibits e-bikes exceeding 25 kilometers per hour 1. From late August 2025, riders must be at least 16 years old and hold a valid driver's license, with an exception for ages 12 to 17 when supervised by a parent 1. Mandatory compliance labeling requirements will take effect from the end of February 2027 1.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Rhys Wildman stated: "We are still detecting riders using non-compliant equipment, not wearing helmets, speeding, and engaging in concerning drink-riding behavior" 1. Operation Yankee Surety, the official name of the enforcement initiative, will run until June 30, 2027 1.
