A sanctioned Russian cargo vessel has transported military equipment to Mali in support of the country's military government, according to BBC Verify investigation findings.[1] The Mikhail Britnev, which was subject to US sanctions in 2024, departed from the Russian port of Baltiysk on June 18 and arrived in Lome, Togo on July 9, carrying armored vehicles and personnel carriers that reached Mali's capital Bamako on July 25.[1] The shipment included general-purpose trucks, BTR-series armored personnel carriers, and light infantry vehicles intended to bolster the military government's operations against insurgent forces.[1]
