Environmental advocates are launching a nationwide campaign to pressure Democratic politicians into prioritizing climate change discussions. Supporters of the campaign cite polling data to counter the assumption that emphasizing climate change is politically risky for Democratic candidates. Research from the University of California, Santa Barbara conducted in July found that discussing climate change had a neutral to positive effect on Democratic candidates' electoral prospects.[1] A July poll by Data for Progress showed that 61 percent of likely voters believe extreme weather has become more frequent over the past five years, while a Yale survey indicated that approximately two-thirds of Americans worry about global warming.[1]
