Wang Ji, a researcher at the National University of Defense Technology, spearheaded the establishment of China's high-reliability software research field with a groundbreaking 2003 publication.[1] The paper "High-Reliability Software Engineering Technology," co-authored by Chen Huowang, Wang Ji, and Dong Wei, was published in the December 2003 supplementary issue of the Journal of Electronics and opened an entirely new domain of advanced computing research in China.[1]
High-reliability software technology employs formal methods and program analysis to replace conventional testing approaches, ensuring exceptionally high levels of dependability and security in software systems.[1] Wang Ji emphasized that achieving true high-reliability requires "combining breadth with specialization" to overcome challenges in open and complex environments.[1] This innovative approach has since been deployed across critical national sectors, including aerospace and major defense systems.[1]
In 2015, Wang Ji assumed the role of chief technical expert on a national defense 973 research project, which successfully completed verification in 2021.[1] Recognition of this scientific achievement came in 2025, when the research results received the First-Class Military Scientific and Technological Progress Award.[1]
