The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and the World Health Organization have entered into a core contribution agreement, with Qatar committing $4 million to advance the implementation of WHO's extended 13th General Programme of Work 1. The partnership was formalized on the eve of the 77th World Health Assembly 1.
The flexible funding will prioritize support for countries facing crisis and post-crisis situations, while addressing communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases, health system strengthening, and health promotion across the lifespan 1. According to Sultan Ahmed Al-Aseeri, Executive Director of the Qatar Fund for Development, "Our partnership with WHO is a testament to our dedication to leaving no one behind in the pursuit of health equity worldwide" 1.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized the importance of such contributions, stating that "Flexible funds are critical for WHO's life-saving work" 1.
