The U.S. government announced on July 31 Eastern Time a ban on imports from 43 Chinese enterprises, citing alleged involvement in forced labor of Uyghur workers in Xinjiang.[1] The affected companies have been added to the Entity List under the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act.[1]
The prohibited enterprises operate across multiple sectors, including pharmaceuticals, metals, cotton, food production, and lithium manufacturing.[1] Among them, Hunan Aihua Group was identified as procuring carbon foil and other materials from Xinjiang.[1]
China's Ministry of Commerce swiftly responded by characterizing the measure as "economic coercion" that damages the rights of Chinese enterprises and contradicts consensus reached between Chinese and U.S. leaders.[1] The ministry stated it would take necessary measures to protect the legitimate interests of affected companies.[1]
The timing drew particular attention, as the ban came just one day after trade officials from both nations held a video call on July 30.[1]
