The DSA's membership has surged dramatically, growing from approximately 6,500 members in 2012 to over 120,000 this year,[1] with notable members including Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and New York City Mayor Eric Adams.[1] According to Republican strategy documents, party officials have advised linking socialism, Marxism, and communism together, noting that "Americans still view communism as far more dangerous and concerning than socialism and Marxism."[1] However, recent polling data presents a different picture: a Cato Institute survey found that Generation Z Americans view socialism more favorably at 53 percent compared to capitalism at 45 percent.[1]
