Emirates Airlines flight EK302, traveling from Dubai to Shanghai Pudong, was forced to divert to Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport on July 22 due to severe thunderstorms in the Shanghai area.[1] The aircraft carried 373 passengers who remained confined in the cabin for more than 10 hours before being permitted to disembark around 9 a.m. on July 23.[1] The prolonged confinement created difficult conditions, with stifling heat reported in the cabin and at least one passenger losing consciousness.[1]
In response to the incident, Emirates Airlines initiated a compensation program for affected passengers.[1] Each traveler received 600 euros in cash, equivalent to approximately 4,666 Chinese yuan.[1] Skywards frequent flyer program members were provided an additional 40,000 miles as compensation.[1] The airline also agreed to reimburse reasonable expenses, including transportation costs, upon presentation of receipts and supporting documentation.[1]
