The San Francisco Giants have halted salary payments to outfielder Harrison Bader following a scooter accident that worsened his existing left foot plantar fasciitis injury.[1] The incident occurred early Sunday morning in the Marina District of San Francisco.[1]
Bader, signed to a two-year, $20.5 million contract with a base salary of $4.5 million for this season, stands to lose $1.42 million in remaining wages for the year.[1] Prior to the accident, the outfielder had appeared in 30 games with a .170 batting average, 5 home runs, and 14 runs batted in, posting an on-base plus slugging percentage of .557.[1] Giants executive Buster Posey said in a statement: "We are still investigating the circumstances of the accident, but will be suspending payment to Harrison until he is able to resume performing services for the club."[1]
Bader was previously suspended from competition at the University of Florida in 2014 following a scooter accident.[1]
