Cameron Young carded a 9-under 61 in the second round of the Rocket Classic, tying the single-round record at Detroit Golf Club 1. Young made seven birdies over his first eight holes but cooled considerably on the back nine, finishing without a bogey 1. His two-round total of 10-under put him level for the lead alongside Patrick Cantlay and Patrick Fishburn, each of whom shot 66 1.
Young's round left him tantalizingly close to the course record but ultimately short of his own ambitions. "I was thinking 55," Young said of his aspirations during the round 1. The 61 fell well short of Jim Furyk's 58-stroke tournament record, which has stood for a decade 1. Matt Wallace (64) and Rickie Fowler (68) trailed the leaders by two strokes 1.
Young entered the event with momentum from three victories already this season and holds a world ranking of third 1. He shot a 59 earlier in 2024 at the Travelers Championship 1. The Rocket Classic, where Young now sits atop the leaderboard, is the eighth and final edition of the tournament 1.
