Maddy Murphy, a 16-year-old dancer from the remote Queensland town of Julia Creek, has secured a place at Tanz Akademie Zurich, one of Europe's most selective dance institutions.[1] Murphy was selected in March auditions as one of only 22 dancers accepted globally to the Swiss academy.[1] Her acceptance represents a significant achievement after years of rigorous training, during which she won first prize at the Brisbane International Contemporary Dance Prix.[1]
Murphy's path to this opportunity began when she started dancing at age five and later relocated to Brisbane at age 11 to pursue her training more intensively, covering a distance of over 1,600 kilometres from her hometown.[1] Her former academy, Prima Youth Ballet Academy, is closing in early 2025, the same period when she will complete her high school studies by year's end.[1] She is now set to begin her three to four years of professional training in Switzerland, with the goal of establishing a career as a professional dancer.[1]
