Pronto, an Indian domestic services platform, has achieved a $200 million valuation after raising approximately $60 million from investors including Bain Capital and General Catalyst.[1] The startup, founded in February 2025, has developed a distinctive business model that provides additional income to its workforce by having cleaning workers wear head-mounted cameras to record their work.[1]
The company sells anonymized video footage from these recordings to American artificial intelligence companies for robot training purposes.[1] Workers who participate in the "Pronto Certification" program receive double compensation for their services, while customers pay an additional 9 rupees to access video recordings of their cleaning sessions.[1] Pronto processes an average of 46,000 standard orders and thousands of certified orders daily.[1]
The platform employs approximately 7,000 workers, of whom 99 percent are women, across 11 Indian cities including Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, and Gurgaon.[1] Individual cleaners earn hourly rates ranging from 49 rupees (approximately 50 cents) to 249 rupees (approximately $2.60).[1] One employee named Varsha Singh saw her monthly income increase from 18,000 rupees ($180) to approximately 30,000 rupees ($310) through participation in the certification program.[1]
CEO Anjali Sardana framed the initiative as a response to economic inequality, stating: "Trillions of dollars flow into AI capital expenditure annually, yet blue-collar workers in India receive none of the benefits."[1]
