On July 31, hundreds of community members assembled at Donald Memorial Hall to pay their respects to the teenager.[1] Layla's aunt Kaitlyn Cheyne delivered a tribute at the service, stating: "There are not enough words in the entire English language, or every language combined, to adequately describe who Layla was."[1] Her father Aaron Jeffery read a poem at the memorial, sharing the words: "You can share tears that she's gone or you can smile that she has lived."[1] The grain silos in Donald were illuminated with pink lights as a tribute to Layla.[1]
