Frank Kalayzich, a senior umpires' coach with nearly 40 years in Australian Rules Football, has failed in his bid to overturn his dismissal following a physical confrontation with a jogger at North Sydney Oval in May 2024.[1] The Fair Work Commission's full bench upheld the termination, determining that Kalayzich's conduct was unreasonable and inappropriate, and that the dismissal was legally valid.[1]
According to CCTV footage, Kalayzich engaged in wrestling, rough handling, and what investigators described as "frog-marching" the jogger over approximately one minute while the individual was attempting to access a restricted training area.[1] An AFL investigation concluded that Kalayzich had used "offensive, intimidating and abusive language" during the incident.[1] Fair Work Commission deputy president Bryce Cross ruled that the dismissal was neither unjust nor unreasonable.[1]
