New Australia rugby coach Les Kiss has dismissed concerns that Zac Lomax's impending move to Papua New Guinea's NRL franchise will jeopardize his international prospects.[1] Lomax has announced he will join the PNG Hunters from 2028 after his current contract with Western Force and Rugby Australia expires at the end of 2027.[1]
Kiss indicated that Lomax remains in contention for national selection, stating that "He's in the [Wallabies] picture, as they all are. It [wing] is a competitive position, though, and that's the important thing."[1] Lomax is currently sidelined by a groin injury and will miss Australia's upcoming match against Japan scheduled for August 8, 2025, in Osaka.[1]
Australia is preparing for the fixture under Kiss's new regime, which includes the introduction of a fresh defensive system coached by former New Zealand defence coach Scott McLeod.[1] The Wallabies, currently ranked eighth, will begin preparations for the Test at North Sydney Oval this week.[1]
