Nepali-British mountaineer Nirmal Purja and nine other international climbers have gone missing on Broad Peak in northern Pakistan following an avalanche.[1] The expedition, which lost contact late Thursday, comprised five Nepali climbers, one Pakistani mountaineer identified as Sohail Sakhi, one Omani climber named Nathira, one American climber Mallory Geis, one Chinese climber Wang, and one additional foreign climber.[1]
Broad Peak, the world's 12th-highest mountain, stands at 26,401 feet (8,047 meters).[1] Pakistani Alpine Club officials are coordinating with the government to mobilize rescue resources, including helicopters, to search for the missing team.[1] Purja is known for his record achievement in 2019 when he summited all 14 of the world's highest peaks in 189 days, an accomplishment documented in the Netflix series "14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible."[1]
