"I have always been concerned about several children I did not have the opportunity to bring through to graduation, for which I am deeply sorry," Wu wrote in the letter [1]. "Please do not lament for me. I have faced each day with resolve, I have faced everything with resolve, and my life is now without regret" [1].
Throughout his career, Wu made significant contributions to the study of folk culture and regional heritage in China's northwest. He founded Shihezi University's Center for Xinjiang Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2011, establishing the first such research institution in Xinjiang's higher education system [1]. Between 2016 and later years, Wu organized three academic symposia on Chinese mythology and the culture of the Queen Mother of the West [1].
