Robert Assaf, a former Catholic Schools NSW employee and founding member of NSW Reformers, testified that he accepted funds from prohibited donor Michael O'Hara to support Reformers activities [1]. Assaf acknowledged that Jean-Claude Perrottet received payment using O'Hara's money, with monthly payments flowing from O'Hara to Christian Ellis's Beckington Group ostensibly for consulting work that actually funded Reformers operations [1].
When questioned about the legality of these arrangements, Assaf stated he did not believe the donations law applied to the group, characterizing NSW Reformers as "just a bunch of 20-year-old people trying to figure things out" rather than a political party [1].
