Two days of intense rainfall across upstate New York sparked flash flooding that forced emergency responders to conduct water rescues and left a trail of infrastructure damage across multiple communities.[1] The storm, which struck from Wednesday through Thursday morning, dumped nearly one foot of rain in parts of Columbia and Rensselaer counties, while the Albany area received eight inches.[1]
Emergency crews rescued people from flooded homes and vehicles as floodwaters surged through the region.[1] Historic grist mills, some standing for centuries, were among the structures destroyed by the deluge, with water levels reaching three to four feet deep in and around these facilities.[1] Mill owner Andy Klein described the devastation, saying "It's just a horrible event. The mill's been there for hundreds of years, and (a) very sad event."[1] The Castleton-Hudson water treatment plant also sustained damage, prompting local authorities to issue a boil water advisory for the area.[1] No fatalities were reported from the flooding.[1]
