Donald Trump has indicated he may "temporarily" withdraw the nomination of Todd Blanche as U.S. Attorney General due to resistance from Republican senators.[1] Blanche, Trump's former personal lawyer, currently serves as acting attorney general.[1]
The nomination has stalled over objections from Republican senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis.[1] Cornyn has demanded written confirmation that a previously-planned $1.8 billion slush fund for the president's allies has been terminated.[1] According to Trump's statement, "I have no objection to temporarily withdrawing Todd's name, if they do not do the right thing, and putting him back after Cornyn and Tillis are out of office."[1]
For Blanche to secure permanent confirmation as attorney general, he requires the support of every Republican member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.[1]
