Australian opposition leader Angus Taylor has been named in a New South Wales Independent Commission Against Corruption investigation as a potential donor to a hard-right Liberal Party faction, according to evidence examined during Operation Rosny.[1] Members of the Reform faction claimed that Taylor had pledged AUD 15,000 in initial funding plus AUD 3,000 monthly contributions to the group, though Taylor has denied making any payments.[1] Screenshots presented in the inquiry show Dallas McInerney, a key figure in the investigation, stating plans to "ask Angus for $10,000" at a Canberra breakfast meeting in March 2021, and text messages indicate McInerney claimed Taylor had committed to the financial arrangement.[1]
While Taylor is not a specific target of the inquiry, his close relationship with McInerney and factional ties have prompted concern among his parliamentary colleagues.[1] The ongoing investigation, which still has more than seven weeks of hearings remaining, has also revealed that the Reform faction recruited from party branches in the federal electorates of Berowra, Lindsay, and Farrer with the aim of removing MPs Julian Leeser, Melissa McIntosh, and Sussan Ley.[1] At a press conference on Wednesday, Taylor stated that "no payment was made."[1]
