Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass condemned Lineage Logistics' decision to submit a reconstruction permit application just one month after a June warehouse fire, before cleanup efforts were finished.[1] "I cannot believe they want to begin rebuilding before they have cleaned up the mess they created,"[1] the mayor stated. "This is an outright insult to families forced to bear the consequences of an irresponsible company's actions."[1]
The June fire at the cold storage facility left 85 million pounds of rotting food, creating severe conditions for nearby residents including rodent infestations, fly swarms, and persistent odors.[1] An inspection report from July 28 documented accumulation of organic waste, sludge, and food debris, with nearly 200 live or dead flies found on site.[1] Lineage claimed it had cleared food waste from the burned area as of July 25.[1]
The Los Angeles Public Health Department began issuing citations to Lineage on July 25, imposing fines with a daily penalty cap of $2,000 for failure to address unsanitary conditions and pest control issues at the facility.[1] Within one week, six citations totaling $4,500 had been issued for hygiene violations and pest management failures.[1]
