The United States Central Command launched a major air operation against Iran on the evening of July 30th, local time (0000 GMT), characterizing it as a forceful retaliation for Iranian missile attacks the previous day.[1] The strikes targeted dozens of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) facilities, including military command centers, missile and drone installations, coastal surveillance and defense systems, and maritime capabilities.[1]
Iranian state media reported that attacks hit areas near Kish Island in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as Abadan and Bushehr, with at least two people injured in the strikes.[1] An Iranian deputy governor, Ahmad Nafisi, confirmed that the area near Kish came under attack at 0030 GMT.[1] British maritime security firm Ambrey reported that a drone struck an American liquefied natural gas storage vessel at Egypt's Damietta port.[1] President Trump stated that the United States would deliver a "severe" blow against Iran.[1]
Saudi Arabia and the United States announced they had conducted air strikes against Iraq-based militant groups backed by Iran.[1]
